Opening Day? Who is she?
Wow I never thought we would see the day! It’s still hard for me to wrap my mind around the fact that a pandemic is going on causing everything from concerts to sports to get postponed - or cancelled. Living in Nashville, there’s unfortunately no MLB team to cheer on therefore I still support my home team of the Cincinnati Reds. Baseball has always been one of my favorite sports. “near and dear to my heart”. I really can’t picture spring without baseball. My grandpa got me so into it and I have the best memories growing up going to Reds games, running in my first 5K (The Redlegs Run with my Aunt Alison), singing the National Anthem with my high school choir every year, etc. In my hometown of Cincinnati, it’s a whole holiday! Cincinnatians take off or even skip work that day and it’s just known they’ll be at the game. The Opening Day Parade is just something you can’t explain. It typically starts at Findlay Market, which is Ohio’s oldest continuously operated public market, and ends at the Taft Theater. Fans pregame in the Banks which is the bar strip between the Great American Ball Park and Paul Brown Stadium. This year obviously looks a hell of a lot different, but I’m just so glad baseball has finally returned! My Reds are taking on the Detroit Tigers in the home opener this year which is funny considering my dad is from Detroit and most of his family still lives there. I joke that I’ll root for the Tigers as long as they’re not playing the Reds. ;)
Below is a picture from last season before all of this craziness happened! We took it all for granted! No masks, not 6 feet apart, etc!
Comment below what MLB team you cheer for!
